I was expecting a serious take on Final Fantasy. That's not what this is. Pros: Cool anime scenes Sometimes a character's dialogue is funny as all get out. Anything rikku says. Cons: Too much text Exploration. It's always a straightforward dungeon then the next boss. Battle system is very poor. World layout is the exact same as cross edge.

May be a spinoff in the series, but the Xbox has been a bit starved for JRPGs for a decade now and we'll take what we can get. It helps that the game is actually quite fantastic as both a homage to nostalgic fans and a love letter to Pokemon. If you haven't played the game on other platforms, you can still safely jump into the fray, but it never hurts to have a bit more information at hand to make sure you maximize your play experience and never miss a beat. Here are four tips which we think will help you find your footing in Square Enix's new spinoff.
Think Twice About Your StackOne of the biggest mechanics of the game is stacking your Mirages. At its most basic level, this means you can pool health and do a bit more damage, but there’s more to it than that if you’re going to conquer everything the game has to offer. First, you’ll always want to consider stack stability. You can see this at the bottom of the stats box in the Stack Management menu. If it’s low, you’re going to want to make some changes. A powerful stack is no use if it gets regularly toppled.Second, you’ll want to consider the elements your Mirages bring to the table.
It’s easy to think the best plan is to get a variety of elements from your Mirages and for everyday adventuring, that probably is the best plan. But tougher opponents can necessitate new strategies and this is where using Mirages of the same element can come into play. If Mirages of the same type are in a stack, all attacks of that type become substantially stronger. Fira turns into Firaga and can blow away an enemy weak to fire that a balanced stack would have problems with. You can swap out Mirages easily before a boss, so if you’re struggling, see what it’s weak to with Libra and then come in with a new game plan.Carry Lots of ItemsItems in World of Final Fantasy are very strong for a multitude of reasons. Early on, they’re by far the best way to heal, vastly outdoing any healing abilities and for a fairly low Gil cost overall. They can also help heal status ailments that are giving you trouble if you have a gap in your stacks’ abilities.
But they do more than that — they’re sometimes necessary to Imprism a new Mirage. Most Mirages can be Imprismed just by doing damage to them, but many of the special Mirages have different challenges. Bringing items with you to inflict status ailments (or even simply to heal the Mirage, depending on its requirements) can be the difference between getting a powerful new Mirage and a measly amount of experience after you defeat it instead.
I recommend purchasing at least one of everything in the shop. Visit the Coliseum and the Girl Who Forgot Her NameThere’s not a ton of side content in World of Final Fantasy, but what’s there is supremely important if you want to maximize your experience. The Coliseum is where you’ll fight various enemies and it can be easy to pass over when you realize it gives no experience. However, don’t sleep on it as it can provide some great items and, even more importantly, an easy chance to imprism Mirages you might have missed. It’s far better to catch them here than to backtrack and find them later.
The Girl Who Forgot Her Name is also worth remembering. She has some fairly challenging content, but it’s how you’ll unlock access to many of the classic Final Fantasy heroes, so don’t neglect her.Gotta Catch ’em AllYeah, this is one of the fundamental aspects of the game and you know this already. After all, if you don’t imprism everything how will you get all the achievements you need? So while this may seem obvious to those of you who want to complete the game, anyone who’s just in it for fun might slip up here. While you don’t need to imprism every Mirage to finish the game, you’ll want to get as many as you can as they have abilities you’ll need to progress. For instance, early on you’ll need to use fire to clear out some ice in order to progress. If you didn’t imprism a fire Mirage beforehand, this will mean backing out of the area, imprisming one elsewhere after you find it, and then leveling it up.

I can already hear you groaning, so save yourself the trouble. When you see a new Mirage, go a little out of your way to catch it if you can. This will ensure you’ve got a healthy stable of Mirages ready to come out at your call and take care of those pesky obstacles in the overworld.Do you have any other tips you think are important? Drop a line in the comments below and help out your fellow users! And don't forget we're building a healthy stable of for the game on its achievement page and can use the help of an experienced player!
